No formal agreement was made but in a semi-official letter Colman was offered engagement which he subsequently accepted for period of "about eighteen months" from the date of his full time appointment. There was no provision for termination. Crown Agents have been instructed to pay his Hong Kong salary as from 18th March, 1946.
2¿ Melmoth accepted appointment for a period of three years in the first instance with provision for termination on three months notice on either side. He has been drawing salary of £1,150 from Hong Kong funds as from 15th February, 1946. It is clear that in accepting the position he was influenced by prospect of permanency and that in fairness to him his engagement cannot be arbitrarily terminated,
Person named is chartered secretary, cost accountant and member of Institute of Industrial Administration., He has had considerable experience in financial and co-operative matters and was strongly recommended by Governor Malta for responsible financial post in Colonial Service. It is suggested that if ultimately he is not required for Port Trust he might be usefully employed by you (possibly in Development Department) pending consideration of his future employment. It is understood that he has had experience in the co-operative production and marketing of vegetables.
